The past week across the South saw many teams continue to make statements, and do so against both in and out of state competition. And we saw take place from coast to coast.

Let’s get into the action!

Texas Takes on California

Southlake (Texas) found much success out west as they went 3-0 during spring break, beating La Costa Canyon (Calif.), Coronado (Calif.), and San Marcos (Calif.) in the span of four days.

While the Dragons blew out Coronado 15-5 and beat San Marcos 13-5, the most impressive of those wins came first as they defeated California power La Costa Canyon 11-9.

The Dragons found themselves down 4-0 before a Christian Coniglio man-up score helped make it a 4-1 game at the end of the first and got the Dragons going. Coniglio then tied things up at 4-4, scoring off a feed in the second quarter from Quinn Tyler. A Sam Sheehan feed to Max Bushaw helped lead to the Dragons taking the 5-4 lead heading into the half.

Bushaw would spin away from his defender and beat the buzzer to end the third quarter with a score, making it an 8-4 game. Scores from Coniglio, Tyler, and Juice Manero made it an 11-4 game early in the third quarter and extended the Dragons’ run to 11. However, the Mavericks stepped on the gas and ended the contest with five consecutive goals for a late effort. The Dragons, however, were able to limit that comeback from being completed to earn the two-goal win.

Bushaw led the way in the big with with four goals while Coniglio had a hat trick.

The Dragons arrive home with a tough weekend slate coming up as they face DMV power St. Albans (D.C.) during their trip to the Lone Star State on Saturday and then go head to head with Westlake (Texas) on Sunday.

Jesuit Dallas (Texas) also took a trip out to California for spring break. However, things went differently for the Rangers. They fell to St. Ignatius (Calif.) in a Saturday game before losing 13-8 to Sacred Heart Prep (Calif.) on Monday. The defending champions have now lost four consecutive contests.

Cardinal Gibbons Host Catholic School Lacrosse Tournament

St. Patrick’s Day weekend saw multiple Catholic schools descend on Raleigh as Cardinal Gibbons (N.C.) hosted the season annual Catholic School Lacrosse Tournament.

The hosting Crusaders went 2-0 on the weekend as they defeated Trinity (Ky.) 14-4 in a morning contest before taking down Bishop McGuinness (N.C.) 18-9 later in the day. Senior Ryan Malone led the way for the Crusaders in the latter victory with a hat trick in the win while senior Ayden Turner put up seven goals off five goals and two assist in the former contest.

After the weekend, Cardinal Gibbons moves to 6-1 on the year.

Charlotte Catholic (N.C.) moved to 8-1 on the season with a pair of wins at the Catholic School Lacrosse Tournament as they defeated Christ the King (N.C.) 13-6 and Trinity (Ky.) 14-9.

Also during that Saturday event, Christ The King defeated Bishop McGuinness 9-4. It was a trio of sophomores in Ben Habel (1G/5A), Luke Fenderson (4G), and JP Zimmerman (4G) that led the way for the Crusaders.

Lucy Beckham Owns Mt. Pleasant

After falling to a pair of out of state powers in Cannon (N.C.) and Lambert (Ga.) each of the past two weeks, the defending champion Lucy Beckham (S.C.) Bengals got back on track in a a big way this past week.

The Bengals faced perennial Palmetto State power and crosstown foe Wando (S.C.) on Tuesday night and earned a big 12-3 victory over the Warriors. After leading just 3-2 at the half, the Bengals exploded to outscore the Warriors 9-1 in the final two frames and earn the nine-goal victory.

Lucy Beckham went on to defeat May River (S.C.) 16-6 and Episcopal School Dallas (Texas) 8-7 to close out the week 3-0.
