For the second consecutive season, the Delaware Blue Hens are CAA champions.

The Blue Hens took down conference newcomer Stony Brook 13-10 on Saturday afternoon to stay on top of the league.

JP Ward (4G/2A) and Tye Kurtz (2G/2A) led Delaware with six and four points, respectively. Matt Kilkeary made 14 saves in cage to anchor the Blue Hens’ defense.

Delaware got up 3-0 early in the contest and never looked back. A man-up score from JP Ward made it a 6-4 Blue Hens lead at the 8:05 mark of the second quarter and would be the first score in an 8-3 run that lasted through the 7:08 mark of the fourth quarter and pulled them ahead 13-7.

That stretch saw two instances where Delaware score three in a row. A Jason Kolar score late in the second was followed by a pair from Cam Acchione and Mike Robinson in the third to make it a 9-5 game. Nick Jessen, JP Ward, and Mike Robinson scored three straight from the 3:34 mark in the third through the 10:31 mark of the fourth to make it a 12-6 game.

Renz Conlon took a faceoff win straight to the house with 7:02 remaining in the game in what was the first of three straight from the Seawolves to make it a three-goal game in the end. That late spurt, however, was not enough and came too late for Stony Brook to mount a successful comeback.

Stony Brook got off 25 shots in the second half alone and put 12 of those on cage. Matt Kilkeary made seven saves during those two frames. Delaware also caused 11 of Stony Brook’s 16 turnovers with seven of those coming during the second half.

Dylan Pallonetti led Stony Brook with four goals and one assist. Renz Conlon went 17-for-20 (85%) at the dot and Jamison MacLachlan made 14 saves in cage.

Delaware (12-4, 6-1 CAA) will find our where its is seeded in the NCAA Tournament on Sunday night.
