What to Watch in The NCAA Play-In Games

The 2022 NCAA Men’s DI Lacrosse Tournament gets underway on Wednesday night with the two play-in games. The America East champion Vermont Catamounts will host in MAAC champion Manhattan Jaspers in the first game while the CAA champion Delaware Blue Hens will host the ASUN champion Robert Morris Colonials in the second game.

Wednesday Recap: Vermont Tops Penn State; LIU, Manhattan Earn Wins

Led By a Brendan Krebs-Anchored Defense, Manhattan Could Take Another Leap in 2022

When Drew Kelleher took over the reigns at Manhattan ahead of the 2016 season, the Jaspers were coming off a 2015 campaign in which they went 1-14. The worst season in program history. And while the Jaspers combined for just 10 wins in Kelleher’s first three season in Riverdale, things started to turn the corner in 2019 where they went 6-8, eclipsing five wins for the first time since 2010.

In 2021, Manhattan Could Pull Off a Special Season

Manhattan hasn’t made the MAAC tournament since 2010. And while many, including Head Coach Drew Kelleher, thought 2020 could have been the end of that drought, they were ultimately robbed of that chance with the season being cut short. At the time the season was cancelled, the Jaspers were sitting at 3-3, coming off an 8-7 win over NJIT, and seemed to be starting to put all the pieces of the puzzle together.
