2022 Schedule Preview: Hobart Statesmen

The Hobart Statesmen are the 32nd DI team and fourth from the NEC to release their 2022 men’s lacrosse schedule. The Statesmen are coming off a 2021 campaign in which they went 6-3 overall (6-3 NEC) against a NEC-only schedule. The Statesmen saw their season end in the NEC semifinals in a 14-12 loss against eventual NEC champion Bryant.

2022 Schedule Preview: Bryant Bulldogs

The Bryant Bulldogs are the 31st DI team and third from the NEC to release their 2022 men’s lacrosse schedule. The Bulldogs are coming off a 2021 campaign in which they went 9-4 overall (5-2 NEC), won their conference, and saw their season end with a 13-11 loss against eventual national champion Virginia in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

2022 Schedule Preview: Wagner Seahawks

The Wagner Seahawks are the 16th DI program and first in the NEC to release their 2022 men’s lacrosse schedule. The Seahawks are coming off a 2021 campaign in which they went 1-9 (1-7 NEC) against a conference-heavy schedule. They missed the NEC Conference Tournament.

LIU Improved in Year Two as a DI. Can They Keep Pushing Forward in 2022?

When Bryant made the jump from DII to DI following a 2008 campaign in which they reached the NCAA Semifinals, success was seen pretty quickly. The Bulldogs went 10-5 during their inaugural season as a DI, where they played as an independent. In year two they joined the NEC and won the conference’s regular-season title, and just three years and two conference titles later the Bulldogs found themselves in the NCAA Tournament giving traditional power Syracuse trouble in a 12-7 loss. They would upset the Orange a year later in one of the most memorable games in recent history.

2022 Schedule Preview: Sacred Heart Pioneers

The Sacred Heart Pioneers are the seventh DI program and first in the NEC to release their 2022 men’s lacrosse schedule, doing so on Sunday afternoon. The Pioneers are coming off a 2021 campaign in which they went 1-12 (0-8 NEC) against a conference-heavy schedule.

After Breaking Their Conference Losing Streak Last Season, Wagner Looks to Push Forward in 2022

Things haven’t been too pretty for the Wagner Seahawks as of recent, going 2-14 over the past two seasons. One of those victories came this past spring as Wagner went 1-9. Their lone win came against NEC foe Sacred Heart, 11-9, in comeback fashion. It marked the Seahawks’ first win over a conference opponent since 2017.

After Two Consecutive One-Win Seasons, Can Sacred Heart Get Back on Track?

Jon Basti arrived at Sacred Heart ahead of the 2014 season and in just four years on the job had the Pioneers playing their best lacrosse as a DI program (2000-present). With program greats Max Tuttle and Joe Saggese leading the way, Sacred Heart made three consecutive NEC Tournament appearances from 2017-2019 and, recorded 24 wins over those three seasons, which is a program-record three-season win total at the DI level. It’s also the only time the Pioneers have made the postseason three consecutive seasons as a DI.

Is 2022 The Year Hobart Breaks Through?

Since Greg Raymond arrived in Geneva ahead of the 2014 season, things have been moving upwards pretty steadily. Except for that first season of the Raymond era in 2014 and the 2018 season, which followed two straight seasons in which the Statesmen either claimed the NEC tournament title (2016) or regular season title (2017), Hobart hasn’t experienced a losing season under Raymond’s leadership.

Merrimack Continues to Progress as Year Three of Their DI Era of Approaches

Following the 2019 season, which saw Merrimack win a second consecutive DII national title, the Warriors made a jump that hadn’t been seen since Bryant made the same move in 2012. That move being the Warriors’ jump up from DII to DI.
