It was a historic day out in Salt lake City as Utah had their inaugural season opener against Vermont in front of a crowd of 3,215 fans. The game wouldn’t go exactly the way the way Coach Holman and the Utes wanted as Vermont downed Utah 21-6, but it was a historic day nonetheless.
Led on offense by junior attackman Ben French’s 6 points (4G,2A) the Catamounts were able to secure the 21-6 win as their offense was stellar all game. Nick Washuta had a great day in cage with 9 saves to lead the Vermont defense.
Sophomore attackman Josh Stout had 4 points (3G,1A) while Robert Morris transfer Jimmy Perkins got the Utes off and running with the first goal in program history.

The Catamounts started off the game with two goals in the first five minutes of the game to go up 2-0. Jimmy Perkins would cut it to 2-1 as he netted the first goal in Utah history. Vermont’s offense would remain consistent as they held a 6-2 lead heading into the second quarter.
A six goal run that went from the end of the first to early in the second would help Vermont out to a 10-2 lead at the 10:17 mark in the second. Josh Stout was able to get two goals in a row to help cut it to 10-4 at the half.
Just a few minutes into the third Vermont would get two goals in 41 seconds by way of Ben French and Sal Iaria to make it a 12-4 game. Those two goals would be the start of a four goal run to make it a ten goal 14-4 lead late in the third.
With a 16-5 lead heading into the fourth quarter Vermont has pretty much already sealed the deal. They would score five goals in the fourth to Utah’s one. That would give Vermont the 21-6 victory on the road to open up the season.
The next contest for both of these teams will be on Saturday, February 9th. Utah will host Mercer and Vermont will travel to Navy.
