The James Purpura era started off with a bang as the VMI Keydets took down the Lafayette Leopards, 13-12, on the road in their season-opener. It marked the Keydets’ first victory since March 30th, 2019 when they took down Hampton.

The VMI Keydets are the second DI program to release their 2022 schedule, doing so on Friday afternoon. The Keydets are heading into their second season under head coach James Purpura and coming off a 2021 campaign in which they went 1-10 overall and 0-6 in SoCon play.

The 2021 season was certainly not a normal one. While this were pretty normal by Memorial Day, restrictions and pauses added challenges that nobody had ever had to deal with before. Add in the fact of being a first-year head coach and that can certainly make things even more difficult.
