A week shy of two months after it became the first program with a head coaching opening this summer, Queens University of Charlotte has it’s new head men’s lacrosse coach.

Queens announced on Friday afternoon that Nikolas Colpitts would be elevated to the role of head coach following just one season on staff as an assistant.

Colpitts arrived at Queens last summer following a two-year stint on staff at Jacksonville. He previously spent four seasons as an assistant at DII Wingate where he helped lead the Bulldogs to three consecutive SAC titles in 2017, 2018, 2019.

This past spring, Colpitts helped guide Queens through its first season of play at the DI level. The Royals collected a 2-12 overall record and went 1-8 in ASUN play. Queens’ first DI win came over Hampton in February and its first ASUN win came over Detroit Mercy in early April.

Colpitts was the acting head coach for the Royals’ final game of the season and has been on the road recruiting for Queens all summer.
