The Marquette Golden Eagles are the fifth DI team to release their 2020 schedule. Marquette is coming off a bumpy 2019 season which saw them go 6-9 and miss the Big East tournament, but they step into a new era with Andrew Stimmel taking the reigns as head coach, replacing Joe Amplo who left for the same position at Navy.

KEY GAMES

3/14 @ Michigan

This will be the third year in a row that the Golden Eagles have faced the Wolverines and their fourth meeting overall with Michigan leading the series 2-1. This matchup is always interesting as they are both the newest “big school” programs in the midwest and are looking to move up in terms of legitimacy and competitiveness on a national level. 

3/21 vs Georgetown

Marquette opens Big East play against Georgetown- the reigning Big East champions- in what could be a statement conference win for Stimmel in year one. The Golden Eagles have a 5-3 series lead over the Hoys and won last year’s meeting 9-8. 

4/7 vs Notre Dame 

Midwest foes, Marquette has faced Notre Dame eight times, including an NCAA tournament matchup in 2017, and Notre Dame has won every single meeting. Having come very close to beating the Irish in recent years, Marquette will be looking to secure a “program win” in this one. 

4/18 @ Duke

After almost pulling the upset in overtime last season, Marquette will be looking to secure their first win over Duke in eight meetings this season. Duke comes off an NCAA semifinal appearance last season. 

4/24 @ Denver

Is the Marquette-Denver rivalry a thing? Maybe. Maybe not. One thing is for sure though, these two teams have had some very competitive and meaningful matchups over the past few seasons, including some Big East championship meetings. This one could carry similar importance this year and should be close just like the past few meetings.
