The UMBC Retrievers are the 24th DI program and first from the America East to release their 2022 men’s lacrosse schedule. The Retrievers are coming off a 2021 campaign in which they went 8-3 overall (7-2 America East) and saw their season come to an end in the conference semifinals against UAlbany.
Retrievers’ 2022 Schedule:
|2/25||Mount St. Mary’s||UMBC|
|4/16||UMass Lowell||UMBC||America East|
|4/23||UMBC||Stony Brook||America East|
Drexel, Richmond, Towson, Utah
2/19 vs Drexel: After two scrimmages against high-profile teams, UMBC opens up the regular season against defending CAA champion Drexel. The Dragons return all but a few of their key players from last season, as do the Retrievers. Facing eachother for the first time ever, this should be a very intriguing mid-major matchup as both teams look to be contenders once again within their respective conferences.
3/5 @ Towson: When these two last met in 2020, UMBC took down the Tigers, 10-5, to put to bed their seven-year losing streak against their crosstown foes. After not playing last season, the Retrievers meet the Tigers once again in a battle that will feature two teams looking to reach the top of their respective conferences. This should be a very intruguing Maryland, mid-major matchup.
4/9 vs UAlbany: The Retrievers and Great Danes met twice last season. Once during regular season play and once during the America East semifinals. UAlbany won both meetings, beating UMBC 14-9 in mid-April in a contest where the Danes used a big second-half run to comeback from down 8-5, and 14-12 in a conference semifinals game that saw UAlbany sprint out to an early, 7-2 lead. This contest could be a preview of an America East Tournament game.

UMBC is third not first (as stated above) team to release 2022 schedule in AE. Vermont and Binghamton already dropped previously.
