John Danowski and the Duke Blue Devils have landed a commitment from Green Level (N.C.) junior midfielder Jackson Spells. The in-state product gives the Blue Devils their seventh commitment in the class.

What Duke is Getting:

The 6-foot-2, 175-pound middie has good size, speed, quickness, and overall athleticism. To go with those traits that pop out immediately, Spells has shown to be a serious two-way threat as he thrives on both ends of the field. As an offensive weapon, Spells is a threat from up top as he possesses great dodging ability and is a solid on-the-run shooter. He knows how to use his body, often running through or bouncing off defenders before ripping a shot off. On the defensive end, Spells is a very good one-on-one short-stick defender who moves well and can cause real trouble for his matchup. He has also shown to be a smart off-ball defender and relentless on ground balls. Spells put up 84 points off 55 goals and 29 assists last spring while also grabbing 54 ground balls.

What it Means For Duke:

Rated as a four-star by Inside Lacrosse, Spells is the seventh commitment in the class for the Blue Devils. He is the third big time athletic weapon at the midfield position in the class, joining Luke Warrington (Culver, Ind.) and Ian Dykes (Sacred Heart Prep, Calif.).
