Welcome to week 10 of the college lacrosse season, Y’all!

A big weekend lies ahead with bigtime conference clashes and a iconic rivalry headlining the slate.

Here is a look at four games and storylines to watch this weekend.

Army West Point vs Navy (Saturday, 1pm ET, CBS Sports Network)

Storyline to Watch: Can Army win in West Point?

First played in 1924, the Army-Navy rivalry is one of the most iconic in the sport. Navy holds a 63-37-3 series lead all-time. The Midshipmen have also owned the Black Knights in West Point in recent years with Army having not beaten Navy on its home turf since 2014. That win was the last of a six-game winning streak for the Black Knights.

Since that meeting a decade ago, the two have played three games in West Point. Each one of them has gone to Navy by a goal. The Midshipmen bested Army 11-10 in overtime in 2015, 9-8 in 2018, and 12-11 in overtime in 2022. Can Army snap that losing streak at home to their arch rival on Saturday?

Matchup to Watch: Coletti v.s.  Hayashi

The battle at the faceoff dot in this rivalry contest will be one to watch for sure. Army’s Will Coletti has gone 175-for-272 (64%) at the dot this season. He ranks second in the nation in faceoff winning percentage. Navy has a standout freshman at the position in Zach Hayashi. He has gone 139-for-245 (56%) and ranks 22nd nationally.

Expect the battle between these two at the dot on Saturday to be intense and an impacting factor on the outcome of this rivalry contest.

Tanner’s Pick: Army West Point

Denver vs Georgetown (Saturday, 2pm ET, Pioneer All-Access)

Storyline to Watch: Does Denver reclaim superiority in the Big East?

Once upon a time, less than a decade ago, the Denver Pioneers were at one time the top and sole team to beat in the Big East. The past five seasons, however, have seen Georgetown emerge as the preeminent power in the league. Kevin Warne has guided the Hoyas to five consecutive conference titles. Four of those Big East championships came via wins over the Pioneers.

Georgetown has won five straight against Denver since 2021 and its 7-3 against the Pioneers since 2018. With both being ranked in the top 10 (possible edit), Denver can secure a huge win in year one of the Matt Brown era. A win that would signify Denver closing the gap and possibly earn them the top seed in the Big East tournament.

Matchup to Watch: Can Denver slow the Georgetown midfield?

Denver has held their opponents to an average of 9.7 goals per game this season. They have only twice (Yale, Duke) allowed double digits since the end of February. Saturday, however, will be one of the toughest test for that Pioneers’ defense in a while. Georgetown is shooting incredibly well and has

Georgetown’s midfield has been especially good. Alexander Vardaro (23G/7A), Graham Bundy, Jr., (21G/8A), and Jordan Wray (12G/2A) have combined for 73 points. Patrick Crogan has also played some midfield as well and has 13 points off 11 goals and two assists. Those four combined are shooting at a 28.8% clip.

Tanner’s Pick: Georgetown

Notre Dame vs Cornell (Sunday, 12:30pm, )

Storyline to Watch: Can Notre Dame Sustain as No. 1

The defending national champions came into the season ranked number one in the nation for obvious reasons with much returning from a team that was the last standing on Memorial Day a year ago. The Irish, by nature of an 11-10 loss to Georgetown, dropped from that No. 1 spot in after week two of the year. Duke, Denver, and Army would all take claim as the No. 1 team in the nation each of the next four weeks that followed. But for the past three weeks it has been the defending champions who have reclaimed that top spot.

Versus Cornell on Saturday, the Irish not only have a shot to be the No. 1 team for a fourth week in a row but also will be able to add more beef to their resume and begin a push for May. That is especially true with dates versus North Carolina and Virginia coming the next two ensuing weeks.

Matchup to Watch: A Battle of Top Offenses

Whoever scores more goals wins the game. That is obvious. Saturday, however, presents a challenge for both defenses with Notre Dame entering the weekend as the No. 1 scoring offense (16.38 goals per game) while Cornell is the No. 3 scoring offense (15.50). A lot of goals may be scored on Saturday and whichever offense wins out will win the game.

Notre Dame is led by Pat (13G/26A) and Chris Kavanagh (21G/17A) while Jake Taylor (26G/3A) and Devon McLane (15G/6A) have also made massive impacts, as has freshman Jordan Faison (14G/3A). The attack line of Michael Long (23G/27A), CJ Kirst (34G/12A), and freshman Willem Firth (17G/9A) lead the Big Red.

Tanner’s Pick: Notre Dame

Duke vs Virginia (Sunday, 2pm ET, ACC Network)

Storyline: The year Virginia snaps the streak?

April 17, 2004. That is the last time that Virginia beat Duke in the regular season. Since, the Cavaliers have proceeded to drop each of their last 18 regular season meetings against the Blue Devils. Virginia is 2-23 versus Duke since 2004. A double-overtime win in Philadelphia in the NCAA semifinals and a 16-12 win in the ACC Tournament in 2010 are the only two victories for the Cavaliers in the series during that time. Virginia hasn’t won in Durham since 2003.

Matchup to Watch: Big Game for O’Neill, Zawada?

The reigning Tewaaraton Award winner Brennan O’Neill leads this Duke offense with 59 points off 38 goals and 21 assists. Michigan grad transfer Josh Zawada has also been crucial to this offense’s success, tallying 54 points off 21 goals and 33 assists through this point in the season. The duo combined for 79 points (39 goals) through the first seven games of the season. The past six games, however, the duo has put up a combined 34 points and 18 goals. That includes last week’s loss to Notre Dame where O’Neill was held scoreless in the first half and to two goals on the game. Zawada was held to two assists versus the Irish. He was held without a point the game prior versus Boston U.

Duke faces a big and talented defensive team in Virginia on Saturday. The trio of Cole Kastner, George Fulton, and John Schroter will give Duke fits. Expect Kastner to draw the O’Neill matchup while one of Fulton or Schroter gets Zawada. How those individual matchups play out will be something to watch and the outcome of those battles may very well impact the way this game goes.

Tanner’s Pick: Duke
